The Kennedy Space Center

Simply the most unique and breathtaking testament to engineering, science and achievement.
If you have ever marveled over how mankind has advanced over the past 100 years, then you must visit the Kennedy Space Center (KSS). The home base launching facility for NASA, Cape Canaveral is the place where America and consequently mankind started their trip to the moon and into modern day life. Only 12 men walk our earth today that can look up at the moon and say "I was there".

NASA is the birthplace for the advancement of science and engineering. Some people claim that space exploration is a waste of resources, but what these people fail to realize are the thousands of spun off technologies in medical, manufacturing, public safety, computers, telecommunications, etc that NASA has been responsible for. If it were not for the scientists and engineers of NASA common place items like heart pace makers, breast cancer imaging biopsy systems, laser angioplasty, compact discs, solar cells, weather monitoring satellites, hand held calculators, portable sterilization units, art preservation technology, scratch resistant lenses, precision air quality monitoring systems, flat panel monitors, portable water purification systems, semiconductor cubing, laser surveying, commercial aircraft controls, micro computers, quartz timing equipment, clear braces, common gas station gasoline vapor recovery systems, anti-lock brakes, etc... may have never been developed.

Engineering is the birthplace of innovation, advancement and exploration. The fight against cancer and disease, global warming, hunger and fossil fuel depletion cannot be achieved without engineering. If you want to take a 1 day break from exercising your feet at the Disney theme parks why not exercise your mind at KSS and see the rockets that got us to the moon and back. You currently have the opportunity to see the international space station staging complex full of many of the actual sections that will go into space. The next time you may be able to see them may require you to travel a bit farther.
